Pickleball FAQs

Everything people usually ask before their first session. Can’t find your answer? Get in touch and we’ll help.

Where can I play pickleball near Ipswich and Woodbridge?

RallyPoint sessions are at Woodbridge School on Burkitt Road, Woodbridge. Our community of over 300 members comes from Woodbridge, Ipswich, Felixstowe, Kesgrave, Martlesham and right across East Suffolk.

When do you play?

We run six rec-play sessions a week — Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons — across Improver, Regular and Intermediate+ levels. Times change a little between the indoor and outdoor seasons, so check Rec-Play for this season’s times.

Do you play indoors or outdoors?

Both. Through the winter we play on six courts in the Woodbridge School Sports Dome, and in the summer on six outdoor courts at Woodbridge School. Outdoor play usually runs from around May to September, depending on the weather.

I’ve never played. How do I start?

Come along to one of our free taster sessions — we run them every month. No kit needed: we’ll get a paddle in your hand, teach you the basics and you can see if you love it. Book a place on Eventbrite or email us. Please don’t just turn up on the day, as we need to know numbers in advance.

Do I need my own paddle?

Not for a taster session — no kit needed. Once you’re hooked, you can pick up a paddle from our shop, with free collection at our sessions.

How much does it cost?

Taster sessions are free. Rec-play sessions are £7.50 indoors and £7.15 outdoors. League prices vary by season, currently around £80 for an 8-week season.

How do I book?

All rec-play sessions are booked through our Spond group, so we can keep court numbers right. Taster sessions are booked on Eventbrite.

Which level should I book?

Improvers is for players who’ve had a taste of the game and want to lock in the basics and rules. Regulars is for players who know the rules and play often — it’s our most popular session. Intermediate+ is faster, more tactical and more competitive. Not sure? Try Find My Level.

Do you run leagues and tournaments?

Yes. Our Mixed Doubles League runs in 8-week seasons on a weekday evening at Woodbridge School — the night and times can change from season to season, so see Leagues for the current one. We also run tournaments and have our own DUPR club.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes — players need to be 15 or over. See our safeguarding page for more.

Who runs RallyPoint?

RallyPoint is run by Suffolk Pickleball Co., founded by Ryan Kent and Will Cheeseman. Sessions are led by Pickleball England trained Leaders and Club Activators — meet them on our team page.

How do I find the courts?

We’re at Woodbridge School, Burkitt Road, Woodbridge. The outdoor courts are on the right as you drive down the hill, opposite the Seckford Theatre. Through the winter we’re inside the Woodbridge School Sports Dome.
